Jean-Marc Avrilla is independent curator and art critic.
His work questioned the history of contemporary art in conjunction with cultural anthropology articulating three issues: the relationship to contemporary historical modernism and the question of history in contemporary art, the place of new media and transdisciplinarity in contemporary art, and the role of the curator and the theory of the exhibition.
Art historian graduated from the University Michel Montaigne in Bordeaux (1987-1993), he trained as a curator with Jean-Louis Froment, Michel Bourel and Harald Szeemann before becoming curator at the capcMusée d’art contemporain (Bordeaux) from 1990 to 1999, then independent publisher from 2000 to 2004 under the name United Space Art (Paris), and Director of the Espace de l’Art Concret - Donation Albers-Honegger (Mouans Sartoux) from 2006 to 2009. He's completing a Master 2 in theory and practice of contemporary art and new media at the University Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis.
He is a member of the Board of Frac Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
